Exchange calendaring with Microsoft Entourage

To connect with your Microsoft Exchange calendar on a Mac OS X-based computer, we recommend using Microsoft Entourage. Entourage, as of this writing, provides the fullest compatibility with Exchange calendaring on Mac OS X (see Exchange calendar access from a Macintosh). In fact, today it is the only native Mac OS X program that supports Exchange calendaring and the only way on the Macintosh to synchronize your Exchange data with a Palm handheld device.

If you do not wish to use Entourage but still need to check your Exchange calendar, you may also use RIT's Outlook Web Access (OWA) through any Web browser.

Set up Entourage

You can choose to either:

Once you have set up either version of Entourage for your Exchange account, you can use Entourage to work with your on-line calendar. Entourage keeps a local version of your calendar in sync with the on-line version automatically.

Work with your calendar in Entourage

The first thing most people will want to do is Create a new calendar event with Microsoft Entourage. This lets you put an event on your own calendar, or invite others to meetings you arrange. There are, of course, several Ways to create a new calendar event in Microsoft Entourage.

You may find the need to Add attachments to a calendar event invitation in Microsoft Entourage as you create more events, because it is handy to be able to send out files to people that will be in your meetings.

Once you have a few new calendar events under your belt, you'll proabably want to Modify a calendar event with Microsoft Entourage or even Duplicate a calendar event with Microsoft Entourage.

As other people start sending you invitations, you quickly discover that you need to Accept or decline calendar event invitations in Microsoft Entourage. The same holds true for people you've invited, although they may be accepting or declining meetings from Microsoft Outlook on Windows or Outlook Web Access (OWA). Once you have a number of invitations in your Inbox, you are likely going to need to Delete all calendar event invitations in Microsoft Entourage so that you don't exceed your Exchange quota with event invitation messages alone!

Synchronize your calendar to a Palm handheld

Microsoft Entourage includes conduits that work with the Palm HotSync software to enable synchronization between Entourage (and, by extension, your Exchange account) and your Palm device.
