Connect to a file server
"Mac OS classic" and Mac OS X allow a number of different ways to connect to file servers. File servers provide network-based storage space for your documents. Most file servers you use with your Mac will probably provide "afp over tcp/ip", which is the basic file service protocol -- or networking language -- used by Macs.
No matter which recent version of Mac OS you are using, we have instructions for you:

- Connect to a file server with Mac OS X
No matter how you connect to a file server, it's helpful to know how to use File server addresses.
