This version of Office for Macintosh ... ... uses the same format as this version for Windows ... ... and works with these Windows versions, too.

Office files that you transfer to Windows computers should have the appropriate file extensions added:

  • Word files use ".doc"
  • Word templates use ".dot"
  • Text files use ".txt"
  • Rich Text Format (RTF) files use ".rtf"
  • Excel worksheet files use ".xls"
  • Tab-delimited text data files use ".txt"
  • Comma-delimited text data files use ".csv"
  • PowerPoint files use ".ppt"

As of this writing, there are no current Macintosh versions of Microsoft Project, Microsoft FoxPro, Microsoft Access, or Microsoft's Visio products. There are some equivalent programs from other vendors with similar functions -- and, in some cases, that work on the same data formats -- on the Macintosh platform, however.
