Hardware repair

ITS has worked together with RIT Purchasing and other campus groups to develop a list of preferred hardware service vendors. If your Macintosh system is in need of hardware repair, upgrade or other service, then we recommend that you contact one of the groups listed below.

MacShack is our only recommended Mac service vendor at this time.

Before you call for repairs

In almost every case, we ask that you contact us first. We can Evaluate a computer for hardware service or repair so that we can take the appropriate steps before bringing in a hardware repair vendor. We want to make sure that your problem is related to hardware, and not a Software conflict. In many cases, we can even solve smaller hardware problems at no additional expense, especially when they relate to drivers and compatibility.

While a hardware repair vendor will handle Apple's regular warranty and AppleCare extended warranty service, the vendor can charge for on-site visits (which are not covered in the original warranty or the AppleCare extended service contract) as well as any service on out-of-warranty equipment.
