Virex
Virex from McAfee provides automatic and on-demand anti-virus defenses for classic Mac OS computers and earlier Mac OS X systems. It was previously the standard anti-virus product for Macintosh computers at RIT, and has since been replaced by McAfee VirusScan (see Antivirus software).
Virex license
Virex from McAfee is licensed for use by all RIT faculty, staff, and students. It may be installed on all RIT-owned Macintosh systems, as well as on any home systems for current RIT faculty, staff, or students.

Virex for Mac OS X
If you are using Mac OS X 10.4 or later - on PowerPC or Intel Macs - you should download the latest antivirus software for your computer on our Antivirus software page.
If you are using Mac OS X 10.3 or earlier on PowerPC G3, G4, or G5 Macs, you should install Virex 7.7. You may download Virex for Mac OS X Panther here.
Virex is an important step in the anti-virus defense for the Mac OS X Panther operating system, and in meeting the Institute's security standards (see the RIT Information Security Office Web site). It includes on-demand and background scanning features, like its predecessors on Mac OS classic.
