Virex 6.2 eUpdate location change

McAfee Virex 6.2 connects to a new location for anti-virus definitions, compared to Virex 6.1. If you want the latest anti-virus updates, you should upgrade to Virex 6.2 (see our Virex information for download links).

Note: If you do not upgrade to Virex 6.2, your copy of Virex 6.1 will remain at the September 1, 2004 update level. No further anti-virus definitions have been released for Virex 6.1 as of this writing.

Change the eUpdate location when upgrading to Virex 6.2

When you are upgrading from Virex 6.1, you will need to turn off the "Save current preferences" option (it's found under the "Installation Options" heading) in the Virex installer.

Virex62InstallNoPrefs: When choosing to install Virex 6.2 over an older version, turn off the "Save current preferences" option.

Change the Virex 6 eUpdate location manually

If you did not turn off the "Save current preferences" option when installing Virex 6.2, you will need to change the eUpdate location manually.

  1. Launch Virex 6.2.
  2. Click on the "Preferences" icon in the toolbar. The "Virex Application Preferences" dialog box appears.
  3. Click on the "EUpdate" icon in the categories list of the "Virex Application Preferences" dialog box. Scroll downward through the list of preferences categories until you find it.
Virex62eUpdate: Manually change the eUpdate preferences for Virex 6.2.
  4. Change the "Update Folder" field to read "/virusdefs/mac/virex62/" (instead of "/virusdefs/mac/virex/").
  5. Click the "Save" button to close the dialog box and save the changes.

After that, you can use the "eUpdate" button to tell Virex 6.2 to fetch the latest anti-virus definitions from McAfee.
