Import RIT Certificate Authority in Mac OS X

The RIT Certificate Authority may be used to secure transactions between electronic systems.

Import the RIT Certificate Authority for system-wide use

Mac OS X includes the concept of keychains to provide secure storage of information. There is a system keychain that is unique to the operating system on each Mac OS X computer.

You can import the RIT Certificate Authority into the system keychain with Mac OS X. We have instructions on how to:

The RIT Certificate Authority, once imported in this manner, will work with any applications that use the system's keychain. This includes Apple Mail and Safari, among others.

Import the RIT Certificate Authority for Microsoft applications

We have another page details how to Add the RIT Certificate Authority with Microsoft Internet Explorer for Macintosh. Microsoft Internet Explorer and Microsoft Entourage store certificate information separately from the system and from other applications. (This is true through Microsoft Office v.X and all Mac OS 9 applications, but may not be true for future Microsoft programs.)

Caution: If you create a password when importing the RIT CA for Microsoft applications, you will need to use that password whenever accessing secure Web sites in Internet Explorer. We strongly recommend leaving the password blank.
