Internet Connect log
The Internet Connect application in Mac OS X provides a log to assist in troubleshooting, particularly for dial-in Point to Point Protocol (PPP) connections. The log keeps track of historical information related to Internet connection attempts from your computer.
To get to the log:
- Open the Internet Connect application.
- Click on the Window menu, and choose "Connection Log." The "Connection Log" window appears.

The log window will display several lines for each successful connection or unsuccessful attempt. You can find the relevant lines by the date stamp. For example, you might see lines that begin with "Mon Aug 23 15:13:00 2004" for a connection made on Monday, August 23, 2004.

Sending the log
It is helpful to send this log whenever you are having problems dialing into the RIT DialIP service. It can aid our efforts to get your computer connected. It is even more helpful to send specific lines for the date(s) you were having problems.
Once you have a problem ticket open with the ITS Service Desk, you should get an automated reply from the ITS tracking system. Reply to that automated message, and paste the most recent contents -- copied from the log window -- directly into your reply.
