Connecting to RIT's WPA2 Network With Windows 7 (Personally owned laptops only and NOT Joined to MAIN)

NOTE: The instructions below are "use at your own risk". ITS does not support Windows 7 on RIT-owned computers for "Production" use at the moment.

  1. Click on the Start button (usually in the lower left-hand corner of your screen), and then Control Panel.

  2. The following box will appear. Double click “View Network Status and Tasks” under the Network and Internet category.

  3. The Following dialog box will appear. Select “Set up a New Connection Or Network”:

  4. Under “Choose a connection option,” select “Manually Connect to a Wireless Network” and select Next.

  5. On the “Manually connect to a wireless network” page, enter the following information:
    • Network Name: ritwpa2
    • Security Type: WPA2-Enterprise
    • Encryption Type: AES
    • Select ‘Connect even if the network is not broadcasting”

  6. Select “Next” and the following dialog box should be displayed, select “Change Connection Settings.”

  7. Configure the following options on the “Connections” tab:
    • Uncheck the box next to “Connect to a more preferred network if available
    • Make sure the box next to “Connect even if the network is not broadcasting” is checked.

  8. Select the Security Tab and the following dialog box should be displayed

  9. Configure the following options on the “Security” tab:
    • Deselect “Remember my credentials for this connection each time im logged in. The next time you connect to this network, you will be prompted for your RIT Computer Account username and password.
    • Select “Protected EAP (PEAP)” from the “Choose a network authentication method” drop-down menu
    • Click the “Settings” button
    The following dialog box should be displayed:

  10. Click the “Configure…” button. You will be shown the following dialog box:

  11. Uncheck the “Automatically use my Windows logon name and password…” then select OK
  12. Select “OK” on the “Protected EAP Properties” Dialog box
  13. Select “OK” on the “ritwpa2 Wireless Network Properties” dialog box
  14. Go to your wireless network connections located in the bottom right corner of your Windows task bar. Select “ritwpa2” and click “Connect”

  15. The following Windows Security Alert will appear, select “Connect”

  16. Enter your RIT Computer Account username and password in the following box.

  17. Your Computer should now be connected to the “ritwpa2” wireless network.
