Setting up Directory Searches in Microsoft Outlook 2007

  1. Click on Outlook's 'Tools' menu, select 'Account Settings'.
  2. Select 'Address Books' tab and click 'New''. A window labeled 'Directory or Address Book Type' will appear.

  3. Select 'Internet Directory Service (LDAP)' and click NEXT.

  4. In the 'Server Name:' field type 'ldap.rit.edu'
  5. Check the box entitled 'This server requires me to log on'
  6. In the 'User Name' box, type uid=<username>,ou=people,dc=rit,dc=edu, substituting the word 'username' with your RIT computer account username.
  7. In the "Password" field, type your RIT computer account password.

    NOTE: When you perform a search of the RIT LDAP directory, you will not be prompted for your password. If your password is incorrect, no search results will be shown. If you change your RIT password at some point in the future you must also update this field with your new password.

  8. Click the 'More Settings' button. A dialog box will appear saying to restart Outlook. You can restart Outlook at the end of the process. Click "OK".

  9. A 'Microsoft LDAP Directory' window appears. Click "OK".
  10. Type RIT LDAP directory in the 'Display Name' area.
  11. Change the Port number to 636
  12. Enable the checkbox for 'Use Secure Sockets Layer.'

  13. Click on the 'Search' tab. In the 'Search Base' section, select 'Custom' and type the following: ou=people,dc=rit,dc=edu

  14. Click 'OK' to return to the 'Directory Service (LDAP) settings' page.
  15. Click 'Next' to return to the 'Add New E-Mail Account' page.
  16. Click 'Finish' to return to the 'Account Settings' page.

  17. Click 'Close' to finish adding the LDAP directory to Outlook 2007
  18. Restart Outlook.
