You must have an RIT Computer account before you can use Exchange.
Microsoft Outlook 2003, Outlook 2007, or Outlook Web Access (http://mymail.rit.edu) are the recommended email clients for use with Exchange. Outlook Express can be used, but is not recommended.
Outlook Express can only be used as an IMAP client, and the only feature available with an IMAP account is the inbox.
Make sure that LDAP is set up:
Open Outlook Express
Click 'Tools and then Accounts'
Select the 'Directory Services' tab
Look for the RIT LDAP account, if it is not there follow the next set of instructions to set it up
Click 'Add' and then 'Directory Service'
Enter 'ldap.rit.edu' as the Directory server and click 'Next'
Select 'Yes' to checking addresses using this service and click 'Next'
Click 'Finish'
While 'ldap.rit.edu' is still highlighted click the 'Properties' button
On the 'General' tab change the Directory Service name to RIT LDAP
On the 'Advanced' tab check 'This server requires a secure connection (SSL)' and enterthe'Searchbase'asou=People,dc=rit,dc=edu
Click 'OK' to close the properties window and then close the 'Internet Accounts' window
Set up the Exchange Account for IMAP
Open Outlook Express
Click 'Tools and then Accounts'
Select the 'Mail' tab
Click 'Add and then Mail'
Enter the user's full name and then click 'Next'
Enter 'Your RIT Computer Account Userid'@rit.edu' and click 'Next'
Select 'IMAP' as the server type
Incoming = mymail.rit.edu
Outgoing = smtp-server.rit.edu
Click 'Next'
Enter the 'user name and password', which is the same as your RIT Computer Account, check 'remember password' and make sure that 'SPA' is not selected and then click 'Next'
Click 'Finish'
Highlight the new account and click the 'Properties' button
On the 'General tab' enter RIT as the organization
On the 'Servers' tab check the box next to 'My server requires authentication' in the 'Outgoing Mail Server' section and then click the 'settings' button
'Use same settings as my incoming mail server' should be selected, click 'OK'
On the 'Advanced tab' check the boxes next to 'This server requires a secure connection (SSL)' under both the Incoming and Outgoing server sections, and click 'OK' to close the window
On the 'IMAP' tab you can set the 'sent items' to be stored locally instead of on the server by un-checking 'Store special items on the IMAP server'
While 'mymail.rit.edu' is still highlighted click the 'set as default' button
Close the Accounts window
Say 'Yes' to downloading folders
Say 'Yes' to the security warning
Click 'OK' to close the window
Close the window
When you click on the 'inbox' under mymail.rit.edu you may receive a warning message regarding certificates, just click 'Yes'. You may receive this message each time you open Outlook and go to mymail.rit.edu when it's set to IMAP.
