Web Hosting
ITS provides web hosting for official and personal sites. ITS has recently created two new web environments one for official sites and another for personal sites. The change to having seperate servers for official RIT web sites and personal websites stemmed from security and performance issues.
People and Official Sites
An official RIT web site is a college, department or division site. The web server people.rit.edu was created for the personal websites of students, faculty and staff members. Sites that support departments that previously existed in a personal account, should be moved to the department's web space. Please consult your department about moving this type of content over to the departmental site.
Migrating to the new web hosting environments
ITS is in the process of working with the Web Standards Committee to migrate official sites from the old web environment to the new environment. The old web environment (accessed via grace.rit.edu) is in the process of being phased out and all personal sites will have the be moved over by the end of Winter Quarter (20072).
