Program Educational Objectives
The educational objectives of the Bachelor of Science degree program in chemical engineering at RIT are as follows.
To prepare all of our graduates to:
- apply fundamental knowledge, skills, and tools of chemical engineering in a wide variety of application domains,
- possess a broad education and knowledge of contemporary issues relevant to the practice of the chemical engineering profession,
- engage in lifelong learning as a means of adapting to change, refining skill level, and remaining aware of societal issues,
- communicate effectively as individuals and within and across teams, and
- accept the professional and ethical responsibilities of a chemical engineer in society.
And, to succeed at one or both of the following:
- Work as engineering professionals in the private or public sector
- Enter select graduate education programs and obtain a degree at the Master's or PhD level.
Program Educational Outcomes
Baccalaureate graduates of the chemical engineering program at RIT will be able to:
- Apply knowledge of mathematics and science in the analysis of chemical engineering systems
- Design and conduct experiments, as well as analyze and interpret data
- Design a system, component or process within specified and realistic constraints
- Identify, formulate, and solve engineering problems and validate their solutions
- Identify phenomena occurring on multiple scales, and analyze processes incorporating such phenomena using chemical engineering principles
- Use the techniques, skills, and modern engineering tools necessary for engineering practice
- Participate and function in teams, including those that are multi-disciplinary
- Communicate effectively by written, verbal, and graphical means, and/or by constructing well-documented and user-friendly computer codes
- Demonstrate an understanding of the impact of engineering solutions in a global and societal context, the professional and ethical responsibilities associated with the practice of engineering, and contemporary issues facing chemical engineers
- Access information to solve problems and apply knowledge of the core underpinnings of chemical engineering as a means to enable lifelong learning
