How Does it Work?

All of RIT's engineering programs require five quarters (15 months) of co-op work experience. Co-op typically takes place in your third, fourth and fifth years, and you'll alternate quarters of work with quarters of on-campus study. Some students schedule double blocks (6 months) on a co-op assignment. RIT's Office of Cooperative Education and Career Services will help you find appropriate co-op employment. We have a series of specially designed seminars on topics such as identifying co-op employers, writing résumés and learning interview techniques. If you want some tips from insiders, just attend one of our panel discussions, where co-op employers give advice about your job search and students describe their recent co-op experiences.

In the Office of Cooperative Education and Career Services, you'll work with a program coordinator who provides assistance with career counseling and the job search from the beginning of the co-op process right through career entry upon graduation. Your program coordinator will help you prepare and apply for co-op assignments that meet your specific needs. You have the option of working with one of RIT's current co-op employers or creating your own co-op. Our
Web-based job search system and career office resources provide you with excellent leads, whether you're seeking a one-of-a-kind opportunity in Silicon Valley or a job at a company in your hometown.
