Six Sigma Black Belt Certification

Download a PDF version of the Certification Requirements here.

Based on its strong tradition of presenting applications-oriented programs and services, the John D. Hromi Center for Quality and Applied Statistics is pleased to announce a new option to its graduate students that leads to Six Sigma Black Belt Certification.

The completion of a Six Sigma Black Belt project is a critical component of the option. Because an organizational commitment and involvement is crucial to the success of any Six Sigma program, students are required to obtain the approval of a project from their organization’s management as well as the CQAS faculty. The approval process will include the development of a project charter outlining the objectives, expected benefits, team members, champion, scope, and schedule.

Additional courses may be required depending on the academic program the student pursues. For students in the MS degree in applied statistics, no additional courses are necessary, but courses in quality management and statistical process control need to be included in the electives. Individuals taking the advanced certificate in statistical quality must take a course in regression, and those in the advanced certificate in statistical methods for process and product improvement will need to add courses in quality management and statistical process control.

If you would like additional information about any of these options, contact the Chair of Graduate Programs.
