CQAS Seminars

Equipment Reliability Maintenance

The objective of this seminar is to discover the value of failure data linked to operational equipment. The collection of data associated with failure events is a critical tactic for understanding equipment life, which leads to characterizing trends of performance and ultimately providing valuable strategic information for enhancing reliability through maintenance policies.

Participants are encouraged to bring system or component failure data for review and discussion. 1.4 CEUs.

Topics include:

    Understanding:

  • Identifying and classifying types of equipment for study.
  • Collect, review and classify failure and repair data.

    Characterizing:

  • Conduct a trend analysis.
  • Identify and evaluate a deteriorating characteristic.
  • Evaluate empirical data to determine repair/replace strategy.
  • Evaluate and characterize reliability of a repairable system.

    Enhancing:

  • Determine optimum PM that minimizes cost and/or maximizes equipment availability.
  • Determine inspection interval for standby equipment.
  • Determine optimum preventative maintenance/replacement time for repairable systems.
  • Estimate optimum burn-in period for repairable system and replacement component.
  • Determine if redesigned equipment is better than early designs.

Who should attend

This course is designed for quality engineers, managers, supervisors, design engineers, manufacturing engineers, and managers responsible for quality and reliability of product and/or production equipment.

Cost

$695. This price includes the textbook, Failure Mode and Effects Analysis, and an abridged CD that "exhibits" several executable programs.

Optional:

The “Maintenance: A Partner of Reliability” CD, containing 39 executable programs is available for an additional cost of $125, a 50% discount for persons registering and completing the course.

Meet your instructor

Norbert Jagodzinski is a member of the adjunct faculty at the John D. Hromi Center for Quality and Applied Statistics and the Center for Multidisciplinary Studies at RIT. He has successfully designed and implemented many reliability courses for both online and on-campus students at RIT. He has extensive experience in applying reliability topics in industry for both domestic and international clients. Norbert, as a commercial pilot, is the owner and operator of Jag’s Aerial Photographic Service. Over the period of 25 years, many of the reliability and maintainability techniques have been successfully applied to his business operations.

Norm has provided statistical computer programs to Hewlett-Packard that led to private tutorials with Dr. Gus Weiss, scientific advisor to Presidents Gerald Ford and Jimmy Carter. He also testified as an expert witness on the subject of Reliability. A book entitled Failure Mode and Effects Analysis was written by Mr. Jagodzinski with special acknowledgement to USAF. He has also developed reliability software programs available on the CD, “Maintenance: Partner of Reliability”.
