I am glad I decided to attend RIT. The co-op program and my visit to the school made an impression. I have already completed one co-op and am eagerly looking for a second. I had a great time on co-op and learned things I could not have in a classroom. In addition, the electrical engineering program here is superb. Despite being a decently large school, the faculty and most of my classes are small. I can talk with professors one-on-one and many know me personally. The education, along with the co-op program and resources RIT has to offer, make the school a great place to grow and learn.
One of the strongest attributes of the Kate Gleason College of Engineering at RIT is its career-focused mentality and the focus on the individual student. All of the faculty in electrical and microelectronic engineering I have had the honor of knowing strive to ensure that students succeed in the classroom. Furthermore, the professors and the wonderful academic advisors willingly provide advice and counseling for those who are unsure of their career path. The classes provide meaningful experiences and applicable knowledge, ensuring that every student is ready for co-op and their eventual career and able to apply these skills and critical thinking other areas of study. Additionally, many require in-depth laboratory instruction, allowing students to apply the theories covered in lecture. During my time here I have yet to be disappointed with the education I have received or the opportunities that I have been offered to grow as an engineer.
RIT was my top choice of colleges because of the school’s incredible co-op program and Electrical Engineering Department. The professors and staff in the department are always available to assist with any needs. Most importantly, they will challenge you every day and help you grow to be a better engineer by the time you graduate. Co-op blocks are worked into your schedule and not only provide a break from classes but more importantly allow you to apply your engineering skills and gain valuable experience working in industry. I continue to be impressed and take advantage of the numerous opportunities that the department offers, such as being a Teaching Assistant and enrolling for the dual-degree BS/MS Electrical Engineering program.Next
Deciding to come to RIT was one of the best decisions I have made, possibly ever. As an electrical engineer in KGCOE, I am challenged to learn and grow, not only academically, but also personally. Although large, RIT has a way of making the campus seem small and interconnected. Professors care about students’ individual success, in and out of the classroom. Therefore, courses are designed in a manner that throws a healthy challenge at students, but not overwhelming or unbearable. RIT also offers amazing opportunities for club involvement that helps creates a sense of community. Additionally, the co-op program RIT offers is tremendously beneficial to the learning process, allowing students to gain hands-on experience in their field, something companies strive to find in applicants. Overall, RIT is an amazing place to be, providing its students with a wide array of opportunity to learn and achieve, even beyond their expectations.Next
I transferred to RIT expecting a top-notch technical education, and suffice it to say I was not disappointed. The professors of the Electrical Engineering department are incredible. Their years of industry experience help keep courses grounded in reality- practical skill never takes a back seat to theory, and the combination of the two makes for very comprehensive learning. I was thoroughly prepared for my first co-op, and I feel lucky to be studying under engineers that have taught me how to put my knowledge to work.Next
My experience at RIT has been extremely positive. The professors I have had have all been very knowledgeable, not just academically, but professionally as well. This is my third year here and I already have experience working for a major company in my field through the co-op program leaving me very hopeful for my future career. RIT creates a great atmosphere conducive to learning.Next
Throughout my time in Rochester, RIT has provided me with great opportunities both academically and outside the classroom. I have had the chance to take classes with distinguished professors who are experienced in their fields of study, and are truly passionate about teaching. Aside from coursework, RIT has given me the ability to be a part of honors societies such as Tau Beta Pi, and service groups like Habitat for Humanity. I have also enjoyed RIT’s intramural program, which I would highly recommend. A very attractive aspect of RIT for me has been the co-op program, which has allowed me the chance to network with great companies and professors, and complement my classroom knowledge with real world experience. Thanks RIT!Next
Both of my RIT graduate degrees have helped me become a more well-rounded professional, giving me a balanced perspective in several subject areas. RIT faculty took a genuine interest in me as a both a student and a colleague, a key enabler for an adult student in the learning process. Faculty seemed to know how to motivate and assist me at the times when I needed it most. My RIT experiences prepared me to learn continuously through my career in the face of constant change.Next
When I was searching for colleges I couldn’t decide if I wanted to go to a larger school or a smaller school, but here at RIT I get the best of both. With over 18,000 students on campus, there is so much diversity. Students come from all different backgrounds and there are clubs and organizations to suit everyone’s interests. Despite the large number of students, my classes in KGCOE have been reasonably sized and my professors have always been more than happy to help answer any of my questions. Individual attention is something I find very valuable. The co-op program gave me the opportunity to experience various fields of electrical engineering to learn which path I’d like to pursue.Next
Looking back, transferring into RIT's Electrical Engineering program was one of the best academic decisions I could have made. The EE curriculum here is, in my opinion, one of the best the country has to offer. The combination between theory in the lectures and practical application in labs and co-ops makes the curriculum very demanding, but also very rewarding. Students are encouraged to utilize the knowledge they gain from their classes and the facilities on campus to make their ideas come to life!Next
