Improving the Manufacturing of a Multi-Element Lens Through the Use of Statistical Tools

Colleen Clar
Master of Engineering Candidate
Industrial & Systems Engineering Department

Date: Thursday, November 10th, 2005
Time: 1:00 to 2:00 pm
Location: Room 09-1149 (Kate Gleason Engineering Building)

Abstract:

Statistical quality control tools are appiled to data collected during the manufacture of a multi-element lens system. Information is collected on system mechanics, individual optical elements, modeled system performance, and acutal lens performance. By applying statistical tools to data already being collected, control and improvement of the manufacturing process can be improved. In addition, a shift in the performence of the lens system over time which results in significant increase in manufacturing process complexity is examined.
