Graduate Study in Mechanical Engineering
The RIT Advantage
Key Benefits and Unique Features of our Graduate Program
Specializations Available
The RIT
mechanical engineering department offers several graduate
degree
Financial Aid Available
Many graduate students receive academic scholarships to help defray the cost of attendance. Students who awarded tuition scholarships are expect to maintain a GPA of 3.0 or greater throughout their program of study. Many local employers provide partial or full tuition support for their employees. Some assistantships and scholarships may be available for full-time students. Appointment as a teaching assistant carries a 20-hour per week commitment to a teaching function and usually permits a student to take graduate work for eight credits per quarter. Appointment as a research assistant usually permits taking eight credits per quarter while the remaining time is devoted to the research effort, which often serves as a thesis subject
Research in Mechanical Engineering Research is being conducted across the ME curriculum in a wide range of areas. Vibration damping, boiling heat transfer, micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS), signal processing, and finite element analysis are just a few of the options available to incoming graduate students. The department has a PC lab with access to a wide variety of software packages (IDEAS, ANSYS, MATLAB, Maple, etc.) as well as a dedicated CFD computer lab and many excellent experimental facilities. Some graduate assistantships are available for full-time students; these are typically 20 hr/week assignments as either teaching or research assistants. Additional
