Graduate Objectives and Outcomes

Mechanical Engineering Master’s Degree Program Educational Objectives

  • EO1 practice mechanical engineering in support of the design of engineered systems through the application of the fundamental knowledge, skills, and tools of mechanical engineering.
  • EO2 enhance their skills through formal education and training, independent inquiry, and professional development.
  • EO3 work independently as well as collaboratively with others, while demonstrating the professional and ethical responsibilities of the engineering profession.
  • EO4 successfully pursue graduate degrees at the Master's and/or Ph. D. level.

Mechanical Engineering M.Eng. Program Educational Outcomes

Student outcomes describe what students are expected to know and be able to do by the time of graduation. These relate to the skills, knowledge, and behaviors that students acquire as they progress through the program. Graduates of the Master of Engineering degree program in Mechanical Engineering will, by the time of graduation:

  • MEng1 Demonstrate a breadth of knowledge of mechanical engineering,
  • MEng2 Demonstrate a depth of knowledge in a chosen focus area, inside or outside of mechanical engineering,
  • MEng3 Demonstrate knowledge of contemporary issues in their chosen focus area,
  • MEng4 Demonstrate the ability to independently complete a technical project.

Mechanical Engineering M.Sci. Program Educational Outcomes

Student outcomes describe what students are expected to know and be able to do by the time of graduation. These relate to the skills, knowledge, and behaviors that students acquire as they progress through the program. Graduates of the Master of Science degree program in Mechanical Engineering will, by the time of graduation:

  • MSci1 Demonstrate a depth of knowledge of mechanical engineering
  • MSci2 Complete an independent research project, resulting in at least a thesis publication
  • MSci3 Demonstrate knowledge of contemporary issues in their chosen field of research
  • MSci4 Demonstrate an ability to defend their research work to a panel of experts
