BS in Mechanical Engineering / Bioengineering Option The option consists of one or more biological science electives, a free elective on Contemporary Issues in Bioengineering, and three technical electives chosen from a wide variety of offerings such as Aerosol Mechanics in Biological Systems, Biomechanics, Biomaterials, Artificial Organs, biosensors, and bio-transport phenomena. Students choosing this option are expected to work on a bioengineering design project in the Senior Design I and II capstone design courses taken by all mechanical engineering students in the fifth year of study, and to pursue co-op employment in a related field.
Bioengineering Option Requirements
All Bioengineering Option students must complete the free elective: (4 cr) 0304-461 Contemporary Issues in Bioengineering, AND All Bioengineering Option students must complete: (4 cr) An
Approved Biological Sciences Course (for your Science elective, from the
list of approved science electives). Please note that a custom biosciences
course for engineering students is currently under discussion. This may
evolve over time.
–
All Bioengineering Option Students must select at least 3 courses from the list of Bioengineering Option Technical Electives: (4 cr) 0304-645 Biomaterials, (4 cr) 0304-646 Biomedical Device Engineering, (4 cr) 0304-756 Aerosols in the Respiratory Tract, (4 cr) 0303-732 Biomechanics (Taught by the ISE Department), AND An approved Senior Design Project.
Clinical Blood Analyzer Sr Design Project
Please Note! Bioengineering is a dynamic and rapidly changing field. This option is anticipated to experience more change than the other options.
Additional courses are anticipated in the Bioengineering option soon.
