Dr. Mark Sterling received the B.S. degree in electrical and computer engineering from the University of Rochester, Rochester, NY in 2002 and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical and computer engineering from the University of Rochester, Rochester NY, in 2004 and 2010 respectively. His research interests are in the areas of digital signal processing, systems, and machine learning, especially for audio, biomedical, and musical applications.  In his thesis, he developed detailed physical models of wind instruments that enabled high fidelity synthesis of musical audio.  Later, as a postdoctoral researcher, he lead development of a mobile application that analyzed respiratory sounds for the purpose of providing 24 hour monitoring for asthma patients   He is currently working to characterize cardiac arrhythmias by applying novel signal processing and learning analyses to physiological signals including the surface electrocardiogram.
