The deadline for registration has passed. We hope to see you for SWE Overnight Shadow Program 2009!
The Rochester Institute of Technology’s student section of the Society of Women Engineers
(SWE) will be hosting an overnight shadow program for female high school juniors March 27-28, 2008.
This will be our eighth annual overnight held by the RIT SWE section. The goal of SWE is to
motivate women to achieve their full potential through the education they are receiving now and in their future.
This program offers participants the opportunity to explore various engineering fields through
hands-on workshops and interaction with current RIT engineering students as well as professors.
A mentoring relationship can also be developed through our panel discussion and mentoring lunch,
which helps facilitate the transition from high school to college. In addition, you will
experience life as a college student by attending a class, spending the night on campus, eating
in the student dining facilities, and sharing lots of fun experiences with the many new friends.
The cost of this two-day program is $50. This fee includes accommodations, meals, information packets,
a t-shirt, and participation in all activities. A limited number of scholarships are available.
Please contact a SWE member below to request a waiver. These waivers are awarded based on need.
Space is limited so registrations will be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis. You should
complete and return the registration form with your check or money order made payable to the
Society of Women Engineers on or before February 2, 2008 to: SWE Overnight and Shadow Program,
77 Lomb Memorial Dr., Rochester, NY 14623. After receipt of your paid registration, a confirmation
packet will be mailed to you with more details including directions to RIT, a campus map, waiver
forms, and a listing of what you should bring. You will also have the opportunity to provide us
with your preferences for the hands-on activities that are scheduled for Friday morning.
The RIT campus is reachable by bus, train and plane (Rochester International Airport (ROC) is
10 min. away), therefore making it easy for participants traveling from farther away to come to
this unique opportunity. Transportation between the airport, train and bus stations and RIT will
be provided by SWE.
