The RIT Hot Wheelz Formula SAE Electric Team, is a group of college women engineering students at the Rochester Institute of Technology. The students are a mix of different backgrounds, experience, majors, and interests, who have come together to form a team of innovative and creative race enthusiasts. This unique team fosters an environment of learning and teaching, where members have the opportunity to try something new every meeting, and be mentored by experienced partners. Learning from each other in a hands-on, practical application not only emphasizes concepts that have been taught in class, but bonds the team and creates friendships that last beyond race day.
In 2012, the team took 1st place in the Imagine RIT Electric Dragster Race and earned the Imagine RIT Time Warner Cable Sponser Award. In 2013, the team earned 3rd place in the Imagine RIT Electric Endurance Power Wheels challenge and received the Innovation Award. In 2014, the team came in 3rd place in the Imagine RIT Electric Vehicle Autocross competition.
