According to Vincent F.A. Golphin, associate professor of English in RIT’s College of Liberal Arts, the collection of poems assembled in 10 Stories Down “is about dream fulfillment and a host of experiences that cause China to be permanently etched in my heart and memories. The title talks about the view to stress the vital import of perspective. We need to look at life from a different angle. A lot happens, 10 stories down.”
Golphin’s inspiration for the book is based on his time living in China and teaching at Beijing’s Capital Normal University in 2010 and how that experience was a dream fulfilled.
“When I read these poems many of the sights, sounds, smells, conversations and emotions roll into my mind clearly as when new,” Golphin says. “I hope everyone who reads this collection will be inspired to reach for an old dream, visit China or some other place in the world that can help you rethink what it means to be alive.”
Accomplished author Susan Deer Cloud says of Golphin’s book: “10 Stories Down reminds me of when I was a child and tried to dig a hole to China to meet people and play with the children. This book finally got me to the other side. What an extraordinary trip.“
