Michael Amy is an expert on 15th and 16th century Renaissance art and architecture, as well as 20th century art. He is the leading authority on Michelangelo’s commission for Apostle statues for the Cathedral of Florence and an expert on Jasper Johns.

Amy can speak knowledgeably about Italian Renaissance art and architecture, Flemish Renaissance painting and modern and contemporary art in Western Europe and the United States.

Amy has written articles for publications including The New York Times and The Burlington Magazine, and he serves as an art critic, guest lecturer and book reviewer for a variety of cultural organizations at home and abroad. He is a frequent contributor to Art in America, Sculpture and tema celeste.

He speaks fluent French and Dutch and is a member of the International Association of Art Critics/AICA-Belgium, the College Art Association, the Italian Art Society and the Renaissance Society of America.

Amy holds a bachelor’s degree (magna cum laude) from Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Department of Art History and Archeology (1986) and a master’s (1989) and Ph.D. (1997) from New York University, Institute of Fine Arts.
