William P. Johnson is a professor in RIT's telecommunications engineering technology program. He is an expert on the technical and legal issues in wireless technology, including cellular, microwave, radio frequency and satellite (including "lost" satellites); and wireless regulation, including cellular tower zoning issues.

Johnson also serves as a technical expert for zoning agencies (planning/zoning boards, city planning commissions) to support them in their review of requests for building permits for telecommunications facilities (cell towers). He has provided expert technical testimony in court cases and co-authored a handbook on municipal wireless site review. He joined the RIT faculty in 1989 from Microwave Filter Co. Inc. of East Syracuse, N.Y. where he was Vice President and Director of Engineering.

He holds the juris doctor law degree from the University at Buffalo. He received his bachelor's degree from Kings College and his BSEE and MSEE from Syracuse University.
