A message about the New York State HERO Act
New York State has designated COVID-19 a highly contagious communicable disease that presents a serious risk of harm to the public health under New York State's HERO Act. This designation means that employers are required to implement workplace plans to protect employees against exposure and disease during an airborne infectious disease outbreak. RIT has created and is implementing an Infectious Disease Exposure Prevention Plan. RIT’s Infectious Disease Exposure Prevention Plan is in addition to the RIT Safety Plan. Employees, including student employees, are expected to comply with both.

The HERO Act requires employers to provide all employees with verbal training on the employer’s Infectious Disease Exposure Prevention Plan. RIT has created a training module for its Plan, which is available through the RIT Talent Roadmap Airborne Infectious Disease Exposure Prevention Plan Training. Additionally, all employees must self-monitor for symptoms of COVID-19 prior to coming onto campus. An online form to assist with symptom monitoring is available. All employees are expected to complete this training within 30 days and self-monitor for symptoms, prior to coming onto campus, until the COVID-19 designation has been lifted by New York State.
