Avian Flu Emergency Preparedness


RIT is staying on top of the latest news and staying in touch with local health officials as they develop a “community plan” for dealing with this kind of health threat.

This Web site provides basic information on the avian flu and its prevention with links to further resources through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, World Health Organization and other state, national and international organizations.

In the event that avian flu escalates into a pandemic flu, stay tuned to this Web site for the latest news, RIT-related information and travel advisories for the RIT community in Rochester and throughout the world.

What is RIT doing to prepare for avian flu?  

  1. RIT has formed a pandemic planning team of key service and response departments to prepare a pandemic response plan. The plan will address the specific threat that pandemic poses.
  2. RIT is working with the Monroe County Public Health Department to coordinate planning and align response. We participate in the Public Health Emergency Management Office (PHEMO) Communicable Disease and Bioterrorism Task Force.
  3. RIT has existing Emergency Response and Crisis Management mechanisms in place.
