CELEBRITY SCOOP . . .

RIT’s United Way Campaign kicked off on April 3 with an ice cream social sponsored by Ben & Jerry’s in the Student Alumni Union. Ice-cream lovers at the fund-raiser were treated to a real scoop-hands-on delivery by RIT "celebrity" dignitaries. HISPANIC YOUTH DAY . . .

More than 50 Hispanic high school students from the Rochester area toured campus academic and social facilities at RIT’s 21st annual Hispanic Leadership Conference, March 21. Carlos Guzman, left, and Lori Rosario, far right, both 11th graders at Wilson Magnet High School, work with Risa Robinson, assistant professor, mechanical engineering, to mount a rocket engine to a cantilever beam type load cell. The beam’s deflection is translated into a voltage signal using a mounted strain gauge. Students were then able to launch the rocket and plot the rocket thrust curve.
SERVING THE ROCHESTER COMMUNITY . . .

RIT’s Student Volunteer Center coordinated a community service fair March 13 giving faculty, staff and students the opportunity to meet with representatives from a variety of local agencies seeking volunteers. HENRY’S DOES BRISK BUSINESS . . .

Henry’s restaurant, operated by hospitality and service management students, opened for spring quarter on March 26. The eatery, located at the George Eastman Building, room 4125, is open from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays through May 14. For more information, visit www.rit.edu/~henrys.
DESIGN A T-SHIRT . . .
Here’s your chance to make $250 and have your T-shirt design worn by thousands at the 2002 Stonehurst Capital Invitational Regatta on Oct. 19. Last year’s winning design was created by Michael Wieckowski, a junior majoring in electrical and computer engineering at the University of Rochester. CROSS COUNTRY VICTORIES . . .

Junior cross country runner John Tomac earned individual Academic All-American leading the RIT men’s cross country team it’s third consecutive All-Academic team honors. Tomac led the 16-member men’s team with a 3.65 overall grade point average, while the team combined for a 3.23 GPA. The women’s team earned its first All-Academic team honors after returning to varsity status this year. The nine-member women’s squad holds a 3.33 team GPA.
RIT’S ALL AMERICANS . . .

Three RIT women’s student-athletes were awarded the top award in the nation for their winter sports achievements by earning All-American honors.

Hockey co-captains Colleen Baude, who finished second in the nation in scoring with 72 points (top left), and Jen Gorczynski (bottom) who led the nation’s defenseman in scoring with 42 points earned JOFA/ American Hockey Coaches Association East Second Team All-American honors.

Indoor track’s Molly Urquhart (top right) earned NCAA All-American honors after finishing seventh in the long jump with 5.48 meter jump at the NCAA National Meet at Ohio Northern on March 8.

HEALTHY VEHICLES . . .

Students met with prospective employers such as Eastman Kodak Co. and Lockheed Martin to explore opportunities for co-op employment for the upcoming academic year.
