RIT Recognized Among Top 10 U.S. Gaming Colleges
According to GGL, the appeal of super high-speed connections and dedicated servers, big-screen TVs in lounges, gaming-related classes, social events centering around LAN parties and perks like free download licensing are increasingly part of the lure of certain schools. All U.S. colleges and universities were evaluated on seven factors including size of the student body, geographical location, student organizations, tournaments and LAN parties, tech-friendliness, Internet connections and curriculum.
University of Texas topped the list followed by Penn State University. Other top 10 institutions included UCLA, University of Southern California, Georgia Tech, University of Minnesota and University of Michigan.
As part of its curriculum, RITís B. Thomas Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences just launched a masterís degree program in game design and development. For the past several years, the Golisano College has offered a gaming concentration at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The masterís degree will allow RIT undergraduates to take courses at the upper level and offer graduate students a more in-depth experience.
