RIT’s School of Print Media Offers Certificate Program in Digital Print and Publishing

The School of Print Media at Rochester Institute of Technology is offering a new certificate program, Digital Print and Publishing, focusing on the fundamentals of electronic and on-demand printing and publishing, and variable data printing. Courses are offered online and the program can be completed within one year.

This certificate program will provide professionals with an understanding of how the publishing industry is organized and how and why the digital printing process is particularly suited to today’s publishing initiatives. With the implementation and operation of digital printing technologies, employees are required to have new skill sets to meet the fast-changing market needs.

The program consists of three online graduate courses and a technology practicum. The online courses are Digital Print and Publishing, Contemporary Publishing, and Database Publishing. Following the sequence of courses, students will be required to complete an on-campus technology practicum, designed to familiarize students with the software and hardware associated with digital printing and finishing workflows. The final requirement is an in-depth research paper focusing on a specific technology area discussed during the practicum.

“We’ve had several inquiries about a certificate program over the past few years,” says Twyla Cummings, graduate program chair and associate professor in RIT’s School of Print Media. “After looking at our curriculum, we made the determination that we could offer a certificate around digital print and publishing.”
