Former Science Advisor to Colin Powell Will Give Talk at RIT, April 10

Distinguished scientist and diplomat Norman Neureiter will visit Rochester Institute of Technology to give the John Wiley Jones Distinguished Lecture in Science on the influence of science in foreign policy.

Neureiter will present his talk, “Science and Technology in U.S. Foreign Policy,” at 7 p.m., Monday, April 10, in the B. Thomas Golisano College auditorium. Neureiter is director of the Center for Science, Technology and Security Policy at the American Association for the Advancement of Science and science and technology advisor to former U.S. Secretaries of State Colin Powell and Madeline Allbright.

He will discuss the role science and technology play in diplomacy and the challenges of providing useful, objective scientific and technical information and advice to the policy community in today’s highly polarized political environment.

The late John Wiley Jones was founder and chairman of the board of Jones Chemical Inc. in Caledonia and an avid proponent of science education. The annual lecture series was established in 1974 and is part of the annual John Wiley Jones Symposium, sponsored by RIT’s College of Science.

The event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Dale Cenzi at 475-5774.
