Jazz lovers take note: A performance of new music for jazz ensemble, featuring original works and arrangements by Carl Atkins, Jonathan Kruger and Dave Gibson will begin at 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 5, in Ingle Auditorium in the Student Alumni Union on the Rochester Institute of Technology campus.

Admission is $2 and will benefit the newly established Alfred L. Davis Endowed Music Fund at RIT. Tickets will be sold at the door and in advance at the candy counter in the SAU.

Led by RIT music professors Carl Atkins and Jonathan Kruger, the 18-piece band will feature local professional musicians, many who played in Sheer Energy from 1984-92, the jazz group led by Atkins, then president and executive director of the Hochstein School of Music. The ensemble will perform Atkins’ Vengeance Dance, Suite Bop/Bop Sweet: An Homage to Charlie Parker and Wayne Suite/Sweet Wayne: The Music of Wayne Shorter, and Kruger’s Bossa Contrapunctus, The Quarter-Mile Blues and Simon Sez.

The concert will also feature work by guest trombonist Gibson—Maya and Jendae or Stata Being—along with arrangements of compositions by Thelonious Monk and John Coltrane.

For more information, contact Atkins at 475-4439 or cjagsh@rit.edu.
