Fun For Everyone at the RIT Fall Train Show, Oct. 16

Rochester’s rich railroad heritage is preserved and remembered by model train hobbyists year round. This fall, Rochester Institute of Technology pays tribute to that heritage during an annual celebration of trains and their history.

RIT’s Model Railroad Club will host its Fall Train Show on Sunday, Oct. 16, from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Student Alumni Union. The event will feature a live-steam operating model, contests, videos, vendors, and a play area for kids. Also operating will be the club’s permanent Rochester & Irondequoit Terminal Railroad, featuring Digitrax digital command control and scenes from the Rochester area.

RIT student members are active volunteers in the community who promote the hobby of model railroads as well as Rochester’s rich railroad heritage. Students can apply the technological skills they learn in the classroom to their work on model railroads through creativity and problem solving.

“I have been to many train shows,” says member Otto Vondrak, “and I don’t know of any show of this size that is run by a college model railroad club.”

Tickets are $3 for general admission, $2 for senior citizens, and students and children under 12 are free.
