UPN 18 To Televise 11 RIT Hockey Games

UPN 18/WBGT TV will televise 11 RIT Men’s Hockey games in 2005-06, the university’s inaugural Division I season. UPN 18 will televise nine home games beginning on Oct. 9 with the Tigers exhibition game versus Waterloo University. UPN 18 will also televise two away games Nov. 11 and Jan. 8. All games will be broadcast on Sunday evenings beginning at 6 p.m. RIT will be one only a few teams in Division I hockey to televise their games.

“UPN 18/WBGT is pleased to be partnering with RIT as their hockey team makes the move to Division I,” says D.J. Schmizzi, station manager at UPN 18. “The partnership will be mutually beneficial to both parties and should last for a long time. UPN 18 looks forward to increasing the exposure to local sports in the area with the addition of RIT Hockey to its growing sports schedule.”

The broadcasts will feature the radio play-by-play of WITR (89.7 FM) announcers. RIT opens the 2005-06 season on Oct. 8 when they host Waterloo University in an exhibition game.

“Our partnership with UPN and WITR in achieving 11 telecasts of Division I Men's Ice Hockey will be a major accomplishment for any college ice hockey program,” said Lou Spiotti, director of intercollegiate athletics and recreation. “We are proud and pleased to be able to bring this opportunity to our fans.”
