Hundreds Attend Mini Baja East Competition Hosted by RIT

The mini-Baja team from Ecole De Technologie Superieure captured first place in the 30th annual Mini Baja East, hosted by Rochester Institute of Technology, May 5-7. The winning school, from Montreal, earned first place in the four-hour endurance race and the water maneuverability challenge and tied for first place in the design category.

Host RIT, which entered two cars in the competition, earned seventh and 15th places overall among 71 challengers—making the contest the largest-ever Mini Baja East competition. RIT’s top finishes were in the hill-climb challenge (fourth and sixth places), the endurance race (sixth and 10th places) and the design category (ninth place).

The collegiate design and off-road driving competition drew hundreds of spectators to RIT’s Gordon Field House and Activities Center and Hogback Hill Motocross track in Palmyra, Wayne County. The event coincided with sponsor SAE International’s centennial anniversary and RIT’s yearlong 175th anniversary commemoration. RIT last hosted the event in 1982.
