RIT Professor Gives Talk about Offshore Outsourcing, Sept. 14

Rochester Institute of Technology professor Ronil Hira will discuss offshore outsourcing-or the phenomenon of corporations moving high-technology jobs overseas-as part of an upcoming IT/Telecom Cluster IEEE meeting to be held at RIT.

Hira, assistant professor of public policy in RIT's College of Liberal Arts, will present, “Offshore Outsourcing of Technology Jobs: Implications and Policy Responses,” from 4 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 14, in the Golisano Auditorium, building 70, room 1400.

His talk will address what is known about outsourcing and implications missed by outsourcing advocacy reports, which focus on short-term economic efficiency instead of the displacement of workers and future impacts on technological innovation and national security.

The free event is co-sponsored by IEEE and the High Tech Business Council. For more information, call 585-475-7052 or visit http://www.htbc.org/IT_Telecom_IEEE.htm.
