RIT Mini-Baja Team Wraps-Up Spring Competition

Midwest Mini Baja concludes racing season

Rochester Institute of Technology’s mini-Baja team wrapped-up its spring racing season with top-10 placements in the Midwest Mini Baja, June 5-8, in Troy, Ohio.

The contest was the third this spring for RIT, which earned top-10 finishes for acceleration, braking, hill climbing, maneuverability/suspension, power train, production cost, steering and structural design. Challenging more than 140 teams, RIT placed 23rd overall.

As one of the teams competing in each of three U.S. mini-Baja contests, RIT earned second place for the Mike Schmidt Memorial Mini-Baja Iron Team Award, which recognizes the top three teams with the highest combined scores in the three events. The award is named in honor of Mike Schmidt, one of the RIT students responsible for organizing RIT’s team in 1996. Schmidt died in an automobile accident in 2000.

RIT placed seventh in the Mini Baja West last month in Provo, Utah, and seventh and 15th at the Mini Baja East in April in Orlando, Fla. Mini-Baja competitions are sponsored by the Society of Automotive Engineers and Briggs & Stratton Corp.
