RIT Students Sit Atop Pole to Raise Money for Terminally Ill Children, Sept. 3–6

Sigma Alpha Mu, one of Rochester Institute of Technology’s fraternities, announces its eighth annual "Pole Sit" fundraiser. Pole Sit 2002 kicks off Sept. 3, and runs through 8 p.m., Sept. 6. SAM members will take turns sitting atop a 40-foot utility pole to raise $3,000 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, an organization granting wishes to children with life-threatening illnesses.

Rochester Gas & Electric helped install the pole midway along RIT’s Quarter Mile, between the residence halls and the Hale-Andrews Student Life Center.

Pole Sit 2002 is not only designed to raise money, but also welcomes new and returning RIT students to campus.

The Pole Sit 2002 activities (open only to the RIT community) include:

  • Car Smashing, 2 p.m., Sept. 4
  • Dunk Tank, noon–4 p.m., Sept. 4, Student Alumni Union circle and 11 a.m.–4 p.m., Sept. 5, Greek lawn area
  • Outdoor concert, Oculus, 8 p.m., Sept. 6, Greek lawn area
  • Fireworks, 10 p.m., Sept. 6, Greek lawn area
  • BBQ cookout, 7 p.m., Sept. 6, Greek lawn area
