RIT Formula-Car Team Captures Second Place in Australian Competition

Rochester Institute of Technology’s Formula-car team finished near the top in the \"land down under\" in first-time competition at the Formula-SAE Australasia, Dec 9–10, in Victoria, Australia.

Competing against teams from eight other universities, RIT captured second-place overall and first place in the acceleration category, winning $500.

In other categories, RIT came in second place in autocross, cost-analysis, endurance, presentation and skid-pad competitions.

Eight RIT mechanical engineering students made the trip to Australia for competition at Ford Proving Ground. \"It was a great time and a tremendous learning experience for students,\" says Alan Nye, RIT professor of mechanical engineering and Formula-team advisor, who traveled with the team.

In events last spring and summer, RIT took top honors in autocross, design, engineering and presentation categories.

Work on a newly built car to be raced next year is underway.

Formula-car competitions are sponsored by the Society for Automotive Engineers. RIT teams have participated every year since 1993.
