Competing against teams from eight other universities, RIT captured second-place overall and first place in the acceleration category, winning $500.
In other categories, RIT came in second place in autocross, cost-analysis, endurance, presentation and skid-pad competitions.
Eight RIT mechanical engineering students made the trip to Australia for competition at Ford Proving Ground. "It was a great time and a tremendous learning experience for students," says Alan Nye, RIT professor of mechanical engineering and Formula-team advisor, who traveled with the team.
In events last spring and summer, RIT took top honors in autocross, design, engineering and presentation categories.
Work on a newly built car to be raced next year is underway.
Formula-car competitions are sponsored by the Society for Automotive Engineers. RIT teams have participated every year since 1993.
