Richard Kaplan, president and CEO of Pictometry International, has been recognized by Rochester Institute of Technology for his business success in the Rochester community. The E. Philip Saunders College of Business at RIT has named Kaplan as recipient of the 2007 Herbert W. Vanden Brul Entrepreneurial Award. He will be honored at RIT during a noon luncheon on Thursday, April 19, at the Louise Slaughter Building (78), Room 2240.

“Dick Kaplan was an easy choice for this year’s Vanden Brul Award,” says Saunders College of Business Dean Ashok Rao. “He is a serial entrepreneur in the true sense of the word, and a successful one at that.

“His latest venture, Pictometry International, has contributed significantly to the economic well being of our region, and has done so largely with graduates from RIT, Rao notes. “More importantly, he is an effective and articulate spokesperson for the Rochester business community.”

Kaplan is no stranger to RIT—“In Rochester, we employ 60 to 70 percent of RIT graduates and if it weren’t for them, we wouldn’t be here, Pictometry wouldn’t exist,” says Kaplan. To attend the award luncheon, contact Donna Slavin at (585) 475-2199; dslavin@cob.rit.edu.

NOTE: RIT’s Herbert W. Vanden Brul Entrepreneurial Award annually goes to a successful individual who developed a business that improved the Rochester economy or whose innovative management skills have changed the course of an existing business. Past recipients include Arunas Chesonis, chairman and CEO of PAETEC Corp., Philip Saunders, chairman of Genesee Regional Bank and CEO of Griffith Energy Inc., and Wayne LeChase, CEO of LeChase Construction Services LLC.
