Incoming Rochester Institute of Technology President Bill Destler won’t be arriving quietly when he takes over as the university’s leader on Monday, July 2.
RIT Student Government is making sure of that.
Destler will be greeted by a welcome banner, balloons, RIT mascot RITchie the Tiger and orange and brown clad students, faculty and staff.
“We want to celebrate our institution’s future and show Dr. Destler that he is now, and always will be, a part of the RIT family,” says Ed Wolf, president of RIT Student Government, which is organizing the event.
The group is planning to gather in front of the Eastman Building at 8:30 a.m., in anticipation of Destler’s approximate 9 a.m. arrival.
Destler becomes RIT’s ninth president after spending more than 30 years at the University of Maryland, where he rose from the ranks of research associate and assistant professor of electrical engineering to senior vice president and provost, a position he has held since 2001.
