Sustainability Expert Applauds Passage of Energy Independence and Security Act

Also calls for greater adoption of sustainable processes to enhance bill’s effectiveness

Nabil Nasr, director of the Golisano Institute for Sustainability at Rochester Institute of Technology, who specializes in sustainable mobility research and alternative fuel development, calls today’s signing of the Energy Independence and Security Act by President George W. Bush “a tremendous step forward.”

However, Nasr also says that greater adoption of sustainable principles at all levels of government and industry is needed to make the bill successful:

“This legislation makes great strides in dealing with America’s energy crisis and will enhance the development of the domestic alternative energy industry. However, broader implementation of sustainable principles, including pollution prevention and material conservation within industry, as well as the broader development of sustainable public policies and business practices is necessary to make this law long-lastingly effective. A comprehensive transformation of American production and consumption, to a more sustainable and less wasteful model, is necessary to make our energy goals a reality.”
