In celebration of his 10 years choreographing shows at Rochester Institute of Technology, Thomas Warfield an assistant professor at RIT’s National Technical Institute for the Deaf and director of the RIT/NTID Dance Company presents “RIT/NTID DANCE COMPANY - a 10-year retrospective” of some of the favorite dance works created, choreographed and directed by Warfield for this unique ensemble of deaf, hard-of-hearing and hearing student dancers.
“The RIT/NTID Dance Company is committed to creating a learning environment which supports the individual and encourages a sense of community,” Warfield said. The company also serves to provide the dancers challenging and rewarding choreographic and performance opportunities and while offering the public a chance to see their work on the stage.
Membership in the company is open to the entire RIT community - dancers as well as non-dancers, from every level of ability and experience. In its 24 years, the Dance Company has presented a diverse repertoire consisting of full length ballets, student and faculty choreography in modern dance, jazz and a variety of ethnic-based dance, as well as guest choreographers and performers, including: Tony Award winning choreographer Garth Fagan, Sahomi Tachibana, Tim Draper, Michael Thomas, Sean McLeod, Carolyn Dorfman, Hong Kong-based choreographer Andy Wong and the Nrityagram Dance Ensemble of India.
This retrospective offers extraordinary imagery, thanks to the set, costume and lighting designs of Erin Thomas, Amanda DeYager, and Nic Minetor. Dan Roach’s sound design blends beautifully with the masterful choreography of Warfield in this highly imaginative production.
RIT/NTID DANCE COMPANY plays at NTID’s Robert F. Panara Theatre Thursday through Saturday, Feb. 14 to 16 at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, Feb. 17 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $7, or $5 for students and seniors, and available at the NTID Box Office, Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and one hour before curtain on show days.
