RIT Jazz Ensemble and New Energy Jazz Orchestra Perform Feb. 23

The concert is free and open to the public

The Rochester Institute of Technology Music Program will present a concert featuring the RIT Jazz Ensemble and the New Energy Jazz Orchestra, Saturday, Feb. 23, at 3 p.m., in Ingle Auditorium in the Student Alumni Union.

The New Energy Jazz Orchestra is a professional group, co-lead by RIT music professors Jonathan Kruger and Carl Atkins. The RIT Jazz Ensemble, directed by Kruger, will open the concert, performing several works, such as Matt Harris’ “Mira, Mira” and the immortal standard, “A Nightingale Sang in Barclay Square,” by Eric Maschwitz and Manning Sherwin. Members of New Energy will join the RIT Jazz Ensemble to perform a final piece, Maria Schneider’s, “Bird Count.”

The New Energy Jazz Orchestra will play original compositions by Kruger, Atkins and trombonist Dave Gibson, from its new CD, Sands of Time.
