RIT Communications Colloquium Begins

Researchers detail media innovations as exampled in new open-source platform

The first in a series of talks presented by the Rochester Institute of Technology’s Department of Communication, “News Innovation: Innovation News,” will be held from noon to 12:50 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 17.

Discussion will center on innovative news gathering and publishing across the myriad range of media and offer insight into the future options for the news industry. Michael Riordan and Matthew Bernius will describe an innovative RIT project—Innovation News Platform—which is a suite of software applications that bridges digital and print media.

Riordan, assistant professor in the School of Print Media at RIT, specializes in publishing production advising professionals on workflows and quality assurance.

Bernius, visiting professor in the School of Print Media, researches new-media tools, the manner in which they alter communication and how these changes alter the media tools.

The talk is of special interest to both students and media practitioners.
