Rochester Institute of Technology’s Community Service Center and Center for Campus Life have teamed with a number of student organizations to reach out to Rochester’s inner-city youth. The groups will host their annual ‘Love Day’ from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 12, in and around RIT’s Student Alumni Union. Participating students include fifth and sixth graders from Rochester City School District Schools No. 2, No. 4 and No. 28.
“We’re trying to reach out to those who are lacking exposure to college,” says Jiny He, a graduate assistant in the Community Service Center. “We want to bring them onto campus and give them an opportunity to see what they can experience as a college student. We want to prove to them that they can do this.”
Various student clubs and organizations will host interactive, hands-on sessions for the students in the morning. Following lunch in one of RIT’s cafeterias, the students will spend the afternoon attending presentations by Wegmans’ Zoo Mobile and a magician.
