Alternative energy and biotechnology are just two of the key areas expected to spur future economic growth in the Upstate New York region. Essential to this growth is a workforce equipped with the education and experiences to fill the roles needed within these types of companies.

As part of this educational and experiential effort, Rochester Institute of Technology will host the third annual Youth Workforce Innovations Conference April 2. Lauren Dixon, chief executive officer of Dixon Schwabl, a local marketing and communications firm, delivers the opening address at 9 a.m. in the B. Thomas Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences auditorium.

More than 100 sophomores from area BOCES programs in the Rochester City School District and suburban school districts will participate in all-day workshops taught by RIT professors in the growing career fields of alternative energy, biotechnology, hospitality and service management, information technology, microelectronics and nanotechnology, and optics and imaging sciences.

The Monroe County School Business Partnership, a service provided to 12 area school districts through Monroe #1 BOCES, sponsors the conference. For further information contact Jeff Dillon, coordinator, Monroe County School Business Partnership, (585) 383-2257 or jeff_Dillon@boces.monroe.edu.
