Tigers Hockey Joins RIT’s Brick City Weekend Entertainment Lineup

Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales, comedian Jim Gaffigan will also highlight the weekend

Men’s hockey head coach Wayne Wilson and the Tigers begin the regular season at 7:05 p.m. Saturday with a non-conference game against Colgate at Blue Cross Arena. It’s the first time a men’s hockey contest has been included as part of RIT’s Brick City Homecoming and Family Weekend.

Rochester Institute of Technology’s Brick City Homecoming and Family Weekend has a new tradition—and it’s inviting the Rochester community to take part. The RIT Tigers men’s hockey team will open its regular season against Colgate University at 7:05 p.m. this Saturday at the Blue Cross Arena.

It’s the first time that Tigers hockey—Rochester’s only NCAA Division I team—will be a part of Brick City Weekend. RIT President Bill Destler has challenged the RIT and Rochester communities to fill the Blue Cross Arena with orange.

The weekend also features a talk by Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales and a stand-up performance by comedian Jim Gaffigan, who is best known for his Comedy Central specials and “Hot Pocket” routine.

Gaffigan’s performance, which takes place at 9 p.m. Friday in the Gordon Field House and Activities Center, is nearly sold out. Tickets are still available to hear Wales, this year’s Horton Distinguished Speaker, at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Gordon Field House. Call (585) 475-4121 for ticket information.

Media note: Media interested in covering the Wales talk must RSVP to John Follaco by calling (585) 475-4948 before 12 p.m. Oct. 10. Wales will be available to the media, following his talk, at approximately 12:30 p.m.
